Description: THIS Regiment was organized at Gallipolis, O., May 14, 1864, to serve one hundred days. It was composed of the Forty-seventh Battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Guernsey County; a part of the Fortieth Battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Brown County; the Eighty-fourth Battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Adams County; and the Seventy-seventh Battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Jackson County. The One Hundred and Seventy-second performed guard-duty at Gallipolis, O., during its whole term of service. It was mustered out Sept. 3, 1864, on expiration of term of service.
